Chapter Twelve: The Mirror of Erised

Chapter Summary:
Harry spends his first Christmas at Hogwarts, receiving an invisibility cloak that belonged to his father. While exploring, he discovers the Mirror of Erised, which shows his deepest desire: his family. Dumbledore later warns Harry that the mirror shows desire, not truth, and advises him to move on.

at the approach of Christmas

may we know happiness
even in the darkest of times
if we only remember
to turn on the marvellous light

lumos

O Cloak of Festive Joy, enchant our eyes,
that we may see your mystery

pause

It does not do to dwell on dreams
and forget to live, remember that.

We solemnly swear to seek the common good

reflect

What is the deepest desire of your heart?

The happiest man on earth would be able to use it like a normal mirror,
that is, he would look into it and see himself exactly as he is
